EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Developed in collaboration with Google, this Redseer report explores how India’s quick commerce market is to scale from ~USD 13 Bn in FY26 to ~USD 90 Bn by FY31P, a 5–7x growth that could take the channel from ~1% to 4–5% of Indian retail. The channel already anchors the hyperlocal economy, holding over 40% of a ~USD 30 Bn market after growing from ~USD 0.4 Bn in FY22.

The next phase of that growth rests on activating two distinct growth frontiers: winning larger planned household grocery baskets and non-grocery categories in metros, while improving unit economics and building trust across non-metros.

The Redseer x Google report, drawing on a survey of 1,200+ respondents across metro and non-metro cities, 50+ in-store interactions and Redseer’s proprietary Benchmarks, sizes these opportunities, identifies the barriers to growth, and outlines the playbooks platforms and brands will need to unlock the next phase of quick commerce.

REDSEER PERSPECTIVE AND STRATEGIC TAKEAWAYS

Redseer Strategy Consultants believes India’s quick commerce market, growing at 41-48% a year towards USD 90 Bn by FY31P, is entering a phase in which the route to growth matters as much as its pace.

Metros, which will still drive ~60% of incremental GMV, have considerable room left to grow, since quick commerce is only ~6% of metro retail spend today and no major category exceeds 15% penetration. That share is set to expand 3-4x to 20-23% by FY31P. Capturing this next phase of growth requires platforms to penetrate deeper into the grocery segment by transitioning from top-up orders to monthly household pantry replenishment, and acquire a greater share of the non-grocery spend by enabling wider assortment, assisted product discovery, and strong assurances.

Outside metros, quick commerce is entering an addressable pool of approximately 200 million online shoppers across 300+ cities, poised to expand to 55–60 million monthly transacting users by FY2031. Across these markets, more than 95% of surveyed non-users are already aware of quick commerce, leaving smaller baskets, freshness concerns, and purchase trust as the primary hurdles to regular ordering.
