Take the time to communicate and understand what your colleagues are capable of and delegate tasks wisely. You must be prepared for organisational problems and handle challenges in a positive and flexible yet solutions-driven way.

Initiating an idea is great but following through on it is what will truly demonstrate your project management abilities. Anyone can keep a track record of the work being done, use templates and ensure meetings stick to the agenda, but it’s the doers who stand out.

4. Respect deadlines

As a consultant, you must have a strong working relationship with deadlines. Delivering on time is one of the key differences between an excellent consultant and a mediocre one. You want to build a reputation for delivering on time because if everything else is equal when vying for work and the other consultants are renowned for delivering on time and you aren’t, you can be quite certain of the outcome.
