The MENA creator economy is undergoing a transformation driven by shifting consumer behaviors. While brands have historically leaned on celebrity endorsements to drive broad recall and long-term conversions, we are not witnessing a pivot towards content creators who offer an ability to create more personalized and targeted campaigns. This shift is underpinned by the growing influence of content creators, who are now 1.5x more impactful in driving purchase decisions than celebrities—up from 1.2x just two years ago.

Recognizing this trend, brands are increasingly investing in creator-led campaigns to foster authentic and organic connections with consumers.Today, 8 out of 10 SMBs in the region collaborate with creators monthly, fueling a dynamic ecosystem of 1.5 million active creators and $300 Mn in earnings across the GCC. Notably, 80% of these creators have under 10,000 followers, suggesting significant room for growth and deeper market penetration.

Governments are playing a proactive role in supporting this booming sector. The UAE has launched an AED 150 Mn Creators Fund to back over 10,000 local creators, while Saudi Arabia is formalizing the industry through a licensing framework. Despite strong momentum, challenges remain: brand deals dominate monetization, and signs of stagnation in creator influence suggest a growing tension between commercialization and authenticity.

For the ecosystem to mature sustainably, creators must strike a delicate balance between monetization, maintaining consumer trust, and aligning with brand values. This balance will be critical in ensuring long-term growth and credibility in the evolving MENA digital economy.
